Pumpkin Update

20150713_093604

Great excitement today – the first female pumpkin flower has opened. Taking a male flower, I stripped the petals off to reveal its long penile like stamen. I then inserted the stamen into the multi-segmented stamen of the female flower, making sure that the precious pollen had transferred.

And that’s it. Assuming the pollination has worked, the female flower should shrivel and the bulbous growth beneath it, the incipient pumpkin, should start swelling like crazy. We will see!
