A wry view of life for the world-weary

Gene Of The Week

Although I am blessed with a full head of hair, I am getting progressively greyer.

For those who are concerned about becoming silver foxes there may be some assistance on its way. Melanin is what controls the pigmentation of our hair and, I read this week, scientists at University College London have at long last – what took them so long? – isolated the gene which regulates the production and stores the vital STUFF. The gene goes by the snappy title of Interferon Regulatory Factor 4 or IFR4 for short.

Who knows, this may be the fillip for some enterprising beauty product manufacturer needs to develop a potion which will trick the gene into forever banishing grey from our follicles.

But not for me. I am proud to be grey and am happy with the cards that Mother Nature dealt me, thank you very much.
