Statue Of The Week (2)

In other circumstances 2020 might have gone down as the year of the spring clean. I don’t know about you but pretty much everything in Blogger Towers has been washed down, spruced up and had a lick of paint. It is sometimes surprising what you find when you prise off the layers of dirt and grunge that have accumulated over the years.

A landmark in Dublin for years has been a statue of the Virgin Mary outside Leo Fitzgerald House. The residents, imbued with communal spirit, decided that it was high time the area had a bit of a makeover, hedges clipped, that sort of thing, and the statue receive a deep clean.

Once the statue had come out of its chemical clean, the residents were dumbfounded. The statue turned out not to be of the Virgin Mary at all but of her son.

A case of immaculate deception, you might say.
