On the rare occasions that I have been into a bank during the Covid-19 pandemic I have always felt a bit uncomfortable wearing a face mask, the covering of choice, historically, of a bank robber. I get this uncontrollable urge to march up to the counter and shout “Stick ‘em up”. Still, I console myself that it will probably be the only time in history that it will be OK to approach a bank teller while wearing one.
Bizarrely, a man entering a bank in Jackson, Mississippi, was wearing one, but, for reasons best known to himself, decided to slip the disposable surgical mask under his chin when he allegedly passed a threatening note to the teller. He then made good his escape with a haul of cash. It may only be temporary, though, as he gave the security cameras a perfect view of his face.
Perhaps taking their mask off is the only way a bank robber can stand out in the crowd, these days. Another sign of the topsy-turvy world we live in.
Perhaps he’s stealing the money to pay for facial remodelling?
